News: Global E-commerce Sales Expected to Reach $2.29 Trillion in 2017

According to eMarketer, global retail sales from the e-commerce market are expected to hit $2.29 trillion in 2017. This equates to approximately 10% of all global retail sales. Over 60% of global internet users (27% of the total world population) will make at least one purchase through a digital channel in 2017.

The majority of this year’s buyers will be from the Asia-Pacific region, approximately 25% will be from the U.S. and Western Europe. eMarketer predicts that Asia-Pacific e-commerce buyers will increase at double-digit rates through 2019.

Remarkety lists the 2016 top 10 markets by global e-commerce sales:

1. China: $1 trillion market, 721 million internet users.

2. United States: $396 billion market, 287 million internet users.

3. United Kingdom: $166 billion market, 60 million internet users.

4. Japan: $124 billion market, 115 million internet users.

5. Germany: $106.9 billion market, 71 million internet users.

6. France: $72 billion market, 55 million internet users.

7. South Korea: $38 billion market, 43 million internet users.

8. Canada: $20 billion market, 28.3 million internet users.

9. Russia: $15.7 billion market, 102 million internet users.

10. Brazil: $14.6 billion market, 139 million internet users.

They also list India (sales grew from $818.33 billion in 2015 to $941.08 billion in 2016), Poland and the Middle East as emerging e-commerce markets expected to see large growth in the coming years.
